In
the Kyrgyz Republic, an important meeting was held on January 30th to discuss
the development of nursing education programs. Representatives from three
universities—Osh State University located in Osh region, Central Asian
International Medical University in Jalal-Abad, and International University of
Kyrgyzstan in Bishkek—as well as KSMA University, a Korean expert group, the
Kyrgyz Ministries of Health and Education, the Nursing Association, and the
Medical College Association came together to discuss collaborative measures for
the expansion of Bachelor of Nursing programs.
Participants deeply explored major issues
within Kyrgyzstan such as the working environments for graduates of five-year
nursing programs, the imbalance of healthcare personnel across regions, and the
challenges in cooperation among government departments. Various strategies,
including cooperation with the BK-LUPIC team, were proposed.
It
was particularly shared that the Bachelor of Nursing program initiated at KSMA
is expected to successfully expand, with three additional universities
preparing to introduce the program. These improvements are anticipated not only
to enhance the quality of nursing education in Kyrgyzstan but also to expand
opportunities for nurses to acquire necessary skills.
This
inter-university consultative meeting for the expansion of the nursing
bachelor’s program marks a significant step towards the advancement of nursing
education in Kyrgyzstan. The participants expressed hopes for continued
collaboration to train more capable nurses. This meeting was a meaningful time
for the future of nursing education, with all stakeholders coming together.
